[Review] (G)I-DLE I am FREE-TY World Tour in Singapore
The Singapore Indoor Stadium was painted a sea of Neon Red and Chic Violet, as Neverlands streamed in and waved their lightsticks, anticipating the second concert of (G)I-DLE in Singapore. The lights dimmed and the familiar melody of their latest hit, ‘Queencard’ resonated throughout the hall, prompting thunderous cheers as everyone sang in unison in anticipation of their first performance.
(G)I-DLE took the stage with ‘DUMDi DUMDi’, ‘Latata’, ‘$$$’ and ‘Never Stop Me’. Singapore is the last stop in their ‘I am FREE-TY’ World Tour and the girls were all smiles as they gave their all during the performances. Their pastel outfits paired with white platform shoes brought out their shining, cheerful personalities - from sweet vocals to great dance moves, they had it all!
It was heartwarming to hear all the members introduce themselves and engage with everyone fully in English, despite it not being their native language. This was also occasionally interspersed with Chinese from Yuqi and Shuhua. They were clearly well prepared and hoped to give their fans the best experience and most personal experience possible.
Apart from hyping the audience up for the next couple of stages, “We’ve prepared a lot for you guys tonight, so please look forward to it!”, they also showed appreciation for the fans. “Your energy from the beginning to the end was crazy, and SG Neverlands sing really well!” quipped Minnie.

With the promise of hoping to do better than they did last year, they went into their next song, ‘Allergy’. Even while dancing, the girls managed to maintain clear, stable and even powerful vocals as they continued with “Uh-Oh”.
“In 2023 this year, we also have a hit song, right! And this song is written by our captain Soyeon, it’s Queencard!” cheered Yuqi, beaming with pride and adoration for Soyeon. The song gained popularity for its confidence and charismatic attitude, similar to Queenkas (Popular Girls in Korea) and Yuqi even did a Chinese iteration of such an attitude, prompting laughter from the crowd, before going into ‘Queencard’.
As the girls went backstage to prepare for the upcoming sets, a VCR showing their festival concept and the unique quirks and personality of each of the girls played on the screen.

This was followed by their individual solo stages, starting with Miyeon! Looking like a princess straight out of a fairytale, she captivated fans with a magical and whimsical stage of ‘Drive’. Her sweet vocals and effortless high notes brought the energy levels to a new high, as everyone sang along.
Next up was Minnie, with ‘Dahlia’. If Miyeon was supposed to be a princess, Minnie was a queen! The multi-talented singer showed off her powerful vocals while serenading Neverlands as she played the piano. Surrounded by petals, she was effortlessly singing, playing and exuding elegance all at the same time.
Soyeon exuded coolness and style, donning a red dress that contrasted perfectly with her dark makeup and black boots. She showed everyone who’s boss with her flawless and rapid rapping in ‘Psycho’, easily pulling off charisma and charm.
As there weren’t any solo stages last year, the girls reunited on stage to briefly introduce each section. ‘Psycho’ is the first side track from Soyeon’s solo album; and Miyeon led the fans in singing an encore of ‘Drive’, explaining that it is the title song of her solo album. As for ‘Dahlia’, Minnie mentioned that many fans wanted to hear the song and she really wanted to perform a (G)I-IDLE track that she wrote while playing the piano. “I was so nervous because it’s our last stage for the tour, and I wanted to do my best.”
Shuhua continued the series of solos with her cover of ‘Boys’ by Britney Spears. Unlike her cheerful, onstage personality, it was as though she flipped a switch to show her sexy and dazzling side. Dominating the stage, she rocked powerful dance moves and fluid body waves.
Dressed in a sparkly dress, Yuqi looked like a Disney princess and spent some time chatting with the fans. As it was their last stop of the tour, she asked for song requests for acapella songs, and absolutely delivered with her renditions of ‘Giant’, and even popular Mando-pop classics, ‘Bei Dui Bei Yong Bao (JJ Lin)’ and ‘Dao Xiang (Jay Chou)’. Everyone in the audience sang along, much to the delight of Yu Qi who was all smiles, and even cutely proclaimed that she forgot the lyrics.
However the main event was yet to come. Picking up her guitar, Yuqi sang the first few notes of ‘Could It Be’. Effortlessly strumming the guitar with the wind in her hair, her set was like a scene straight out of a Hollywood movie. Her smooth vocals and high notes left Neverlands completely mesmerised.

Following the second VCR, their concept took a cooler and darker turn as the girls came out dressed in matching black outfits. ‘Nxde’, ‘Lucid’ and ‘Put It Straight’ proved that there is no concept they can’t pull off as they absolutely nailed each song. Props to the Nightmare version of ‘Put It Straight’ that was eerie and chill inducing, yet graceful at the same time.
As Miyeon and Minnie went backstage to prepare for the next stage, Soyeon, Yuqi and Shuhua kept Neverlands engaged in conversations with introductions of Yuqi’s and Shuhua’s solo stages. They then swapped places, and Miyeon and Minnie asked for food recommendations. Some responses were ‘Chilli Crab’, ‘McDonald’s (“really?! Singapore’s McDonald’s is different?” quipped Minnie), “hotpot (they seemed to really like this one)”, “Kaya Toast” and “Egg Tart”.
The next song was also another first in their concert, ‘All Night’ and is written by Yuqi. They then showed their powerful and synchronised dance moves in ‘The Baddest x Pop/Stars’. Despite the vigorous choreography, they effortlessly belted notes, prompting loud cheers from the fans. ‘My Bag’ was another fan favourite, with the fanchants reverberating throughout the hall.
"Neverland in Singapore seems to sing better than us!”, declared Miyeon with amazement. “That’s right, the highlight of today, you all know what song it is, right!” added Shuhua.
Neverlands were split down the middle of the venue, into team ‘Pretty and Sexy’ and the ‘Younger’ team. “Let’s show them our younger energy, ok!” Yuqi hyped the crowd as Neverlands took turns to prove themselves while cheering for their team. This was followed by their performance of ‘Tomboy’, which was met with thunderous cheers.
The final VCR played, showcasing key dance moves from (G)I-DLE’s choreography, and it was endearing to see SG Neverlands show their dedication and skills as they appeared on the screen.

I'm very proud of us because look, we have a lot of Neverlands here and it's all thanks to you guys. Please stay healthy, always take care of yourselves and always love yourself first before loving others. 要等我们喔, 爱你们 (please wait for us, love you all!)"
Shuhua: ”你们好!新加坡是我们的最后一场。剩两个月就要2024了。我们会继续成长。我们在一起长大!我第一次剪头发也在这里公开。我们明年再见!”
("Hello everyone! Singapore is our last stop and we only have 2 months left before 2023. We'll continue to grow, let's grow together! The first time I cut my hair, it was also announced in Singapore. Let's meet again next year!")
The next stage was ‘I Do’, and the girls were greeted by a breathtaking ocean of stars as Neverlands waved their phone flashlights in unison. "Thank you for supporting us last year and today. I'm thankful to be able to do the FREE-TY Festival with you".

This was followed by a photo taking session, where Neverlands held up their banners to show their love and appreciation to (G)I-DLE. They were visibly touched and expressed their gratitude. "Thank you for coming today and being a part of this journey. We promise we'll never forget this moment”.
They concluded the concert with ‘Lion’, before introducing their dancers, staff and Neverlands for making the World Tour possible. As they said their final goodbyes, Minnie ended off with “We love u guys so much and we'll be back as soon as possible!"
We hope to be able to catch (G)I-DLE again, hopefully sooner than later!
