Kang Daniel <Color on Me> Press Conference and Fanmeet in Singapore
On the afternoon of the 15th of September, Kang Daniel sat down with media for an exclusive press conference for his <Color on Me> Fanmeeting Tour. Kang finally appeared, donned in a stunning black suit, giving off vibes of a true CEO and leader.
Ever since his debut as a solo artist, this is Kang Daniel’s first visit back to our sunny island. Determined to give him a warm welcome, fans eagerly waited at Changi Airport for his arrival. The MC for the event later added that despite being able to walk through the CIP terminal, he decided to exit the airport via the normal route to greet his fans. Touched by his fans’ effort, he expressed his gratitude by even having a mini “Hi-Touch” event there, going viral on social media because of his warmth.
He also revealed that he actively participated in the lyrics and production of each song featured in his first solo album ‘Color on Me’. Emphasis was placed on one of the b-side tracks of his album - ‘I Hope’, where he hopes fans can gain strength from it and that it conveys what he wants to say to his fans who have been waiting for him for the past 6 months. Our hearts certainly melted when he said: “with regards to ‘I Hope’, there’s this line that goes - “I hope you smile”, fans are the most pretty when they smile so I hope that they smile even more in the future.” Isn’t that just so endearing?
He even said that Thanos inspired his song ‘Horizon’, where he referenced it to the scene where the famous villain from the Avengers movies was looking out to the Horizon after the ‘snap’. Kang further expressed that if he were to give each song in his album a colour:
- Intro - “Pink, because even though the feel to the song is a little heavy, but it doesn’t lean towards a bright Red, so a lighter colour like Pink would suit it”
- Color - “Rainbow. The song ‘Color’ itself is to show the different styles of myself, so I’d think that it is a song which holds the most colours.
- ‘What Are You Up To’ - “It is a song which embodies curiosity, so I think ‘sky blue’ suits it.
- Horizon - “The song itself has a ‘Black’ feel to it”
- I Hope - “From what I think, it relates more to ‘Orange’ or a deep ‘Yellow’.”
He chose the colour black to represent himself because “if you mix all the colours together, you get black”.
With over 460,000 copies sold, he has since broken records, paving his own way to be the top artist who has sold more copies in the first week than any other solo artist. His humble reply to how he reacted when he knew about this showed how down to earth and grounded he still remains despite his success.
“I totally did not anticipate such results with regards to things like these (breaking records), and because I only wanted to show my gratitude towards fans and sincerely made my first solo album just to show it, I only hoped that they would feel my sincerity. We were given such a prestigious record title, I realised that I have to work even harder in the future. Rather than breaking records, I hope to perform many stages which fans would like and the ideal situation would be to have my hard work show in the results.”
Being back again in Singapore, he hopes to see the same energy and passion which fans showed the last time Wanna One stopped by for a concert. He truthfully expressed that he didn’t have, and probably won’t have time to enjoy what Singapore’s streets has to offer, but with regards to food, he would love to try anything recommended.
Although the press conference ended rather hastily, you could definitely feel the gratitude he has towards his fans as he embarked on the next phase of his journey as an artist. When prompted with any question, ‘fans’ where always the first word to leave his lips and it is evident that his fans are always at the back of his mind throughout.
The future ahead of Kang Daniel is bright and promising and we’ll definitely be cheering him on! All the best, and we can’t wait to see you tomorrow at the fanmeet!
Being the first KPOP artist to hold a solo fanmeeting at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Kang had many first with fans that night. The fans who dropped by that night were donned in pink as he hinted their dress code for the day at the press conference. The sea of pink was so endearing, proving the weight of his words to his fans. The entire venue erupted into ear-deafening cheers as Kang Daniel emerged on stage in a suave black suit after a very eye-catching intro video, grooving to ‘Intro(Through The Night)’, signalling the start of an eventful night.

Remember the legendary opening pitch for the Busan baseball game? He re-enacted it and his embarrassed reaction to his own pitch was extremely adorable!
