Lee seung gi second asia tour: the dreamer's dream - chapter 2
Resorts World Convention Centre was bustling with fans awaiting the start of Lee Seung Gi's second Asia Tour. Titled "The Dreamer's Dream - Chapter 2", the show marks his first return and concert in Singapore since Covid-19.
Singapore Airens waved their pearl mint lightsticks and cheered in anticipation of his arrival. The music from his live band came to a crescendo, and Lee Seung Gi walked across the stage dressed in a black suit. The charismatic singer started with his first song, "Dreamer's Dream".
After his performance, he greeted the fans, stating that he missed being in Singapore especially since this was his first visit after the pandemic. He also added that he had a slight cold that day but would still give his best during the concert. That being said, he still delivered impressive and powerful vocals throughout the show, which was an amazing feat.

Following his introduction was a series of ballads, "Wind", "Return" and "The Ordinary Man". Effortlessly belting the high notes, Seung Gi's singing was extremely stable, and he proved his capabilities as a singer worthy of the title 'Ballad King'.
He then spoke more about the songs he sang, and even teased the release of a new album for his 20th anniversary! Airens definitely have a lot to look forward to, from dramas to variety shows and even songs by the multi-talented man.
Seung Gi also revealed why he opted for a concert instead of a fanmeet, unlike his previous visits. While fanmeets were mainly centered around games and activities, he wanted to create more opportunities to showcase his side as a singer to the fans. By holding a concert, he was able to finally meet fans as a singer, with his voice, which was his intended purpose for the tour.

Going deeper into the creation of his 20th Anniversary album, he gave some behind the scenes stories to the songs, one of which he performed live during the show. Giving the analogy of that one ballad song that comes up when you're deep in thought while in a train or commuting, he explained that he wrote it in hopes that it would heal pain and scars while reminding the fans of hope and happiness.
Next on the setlist were rock songs, "Circle", "Like a Flower", and "Slave", and fans were obviously waiting for a long time. As they jammed along enthusiastically to the fast-paced beats, the atmosphere came to its all time high. Spurred by their cheers, Lee Seung Gi gave it his all - running across the stage, getting the audience to cheer all while maintaining his powerhouse vocals.
He also brought fans on a trip down memory lane with "Losing My Mind", the theme song to his hit drama, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. This was clearly a crowd favourite as everyone sang along in unison.
Seung Gi also shared a glimpse of his personal life - he actually went for a swim for an hour earlier that day as he had trouble sleeping. Visibly impressed with the length of the pool, he told the fans "I almost died (while swimming), it was maybe 40-50 metres", prompting laughter from the audience. That wasn't the end, he continued by saying that "I still feel like the ultimate diet (exercise) is during the concert", because he exhausted more energy performing than he did while swimming AND cycling that same day.
Going back to the topic of his 20th Anniversary album, he also discussed his conflicted feelings on the genre. It seems like fans tend to look forward to rock songs during the concert due to the high energy, but there are others who prefer ballads. As a result, he was unsure of what to settle on. However, he concluded that "I am not someone who will go to the extreme end", and promised to include both genres.

Knowing his fans enjoy his covers, he also expressed his desire to give them a gift by singing "Forbidden Love". "It's a popular song!" he emphasised. This was followed by another performance of "Even Though I Loved", a song he sang during Master in the House. It was an impromptu performance ("there aren't even any lyrics prepared on the teleprompter!"), but him and his band pulled it off effortlessly, once again solidifying their talent and spontaneity.
He promised more concerts in future too, saying that he aims to do another in Singapore, in a year or two. Delivering yet another emotional ballad, he charmed the audience with "Desire and Repentance" and "Delete". Seung Gi chose to include "Delete" in the setlist knowing that it is highly requested, clearly showing his love for his fans.
Jokingly, he added that "I've sung each song with so much power that I really feel like dying now". Seung Gi then revealed that he has been increasing the number of songs in the setlist as he visits more countries. "I added one at first, but it seemed like everyone enjoyed it so I added another, then another.", "I have so much I wanted to show you, so the list just got longer and longer". His initial plan was just to hold a mini concert, but with the new additions, his tour was starting to look more like a full concert.
As the concert was coming to an end, he took a photo as fans raised the fansupport banners. Seung Gi started his closing statement - the VCRs throughout the show are actually representative of what he wants to do in future, which is to follow his heart and do what he enjoys. "I'm no longer afraid of failing, but instead, what scares me is the thought of not even trying". He hopes to reflect this, be it in acting, singing or even hosting.

There were two more songs he prepared, "Music Time" followed by "Encore" which was such an apt ending song. But of course, this wasn't the end. As Airens chanted for an encore, a touching video montage of the past 19 years of Seung Gi's career had fans feeling emotional. It ended with a message signaling his heartfelt gratitude towards his fans, thanking them for their support over the many years he's been active.
Seung Gi then returned on stage with one final song, "Because You're My Woman" and ended the concert on a high. Saying his final goodbyes, he made sure to walk along the entire length of the stage to greet fans in all sections, "see you again in 1-2 years, Singapore!".
The entire show was heartwarming, and not only showed Seung Gi's talent but also his genuine and down to earth personality. As we look forward to his 20th Anniversary album and full concert, we will also continue cheering him on for his ongoing projects!
