aomg 'follow the movement' in singapore
AOMG recently held their first ever concert in Singapore on 1 May 2017, which ended our long labour day weekend on a high note. It was held at Suntec Convention Hall, which partly contributed to the great experience due to its good sound system and air conditioning. The group has definitely proved themselves to be above ordinary as they got the audience to “Follow the Movement” and groove to their music throughout the concert.
Loco started off by hyping up the audience with his insane rapping speed which got many of us up on our feet, waving our arms in the air to the beat. He was later joined by Gray, singing along with his soothing vocals.

Despite being individual artists, Loco and Gray often collaborate together on stage. The combination of their voices melted the hearts of the fans and they cheered even more loudly when the duo performed together. One of our favourites would be “Just Do It”, as everyone shouts the catchy phrase “하기나 해” together. Both members were not at all selfish with their fanservice, as they made the effort to interact with the fans as much as possible - even to the extent of walking very closely to the fans in the mosh to shake their hands and make eye contact with them.
At one point in time, pretty boy Gray accidentally tripped on the speakers at the front of the stage, causing the audience to gasp in worry but he quickly got up and remained his cool as he laughed it off and apologized for shocking us. He also shared that he was told “no gums and cigarettes are allowed” on the plane to Singapore but that he does not smoke anyway. Loco and Gray were able to converse with the fans in fluent English, even making the effort to translate what they said in Korean back to English so that the fans could understand them.
The DJ, DJ Pumkin also showed great chemistry with the rappers as he constantly got the audience pumped up with his strong drops of bass and accurately timed sounding of air horns. The highlight had to be when Loco cutely shouted “DJ buing buing” which was followed by DJ Pumkin's prompt air horn effect. Props to him for having the stamina to be continuously handling the sound effects for the whole concert without taking any breaks.
Simon D then made a grand entrance by having the entire crowd chant his name together with him, which he clearly loves, in his classic song “Simon Dominic”. He also mentioned that his favourite Singaporean food is Laksa, and that he was planning to eat it the next day, contrary to many Kpop Idols that immediately bring up Chilli Crab. Making a joke that he liked “LaksaimonD”, the audience sportingly chanted his “new” name across the stadium in the tune of “Simon Dominic”, which made SimonD laugh a little upon hearing.

At one point during his speech, he spoke in English and the translator echoed after him, seemingly translating what he said. This evoked laughter from the fans, prompting him to ask why they were laughing. He never got his answer and stood looking clueless for a while. Between his songs, he mentioned that he felt “awkward” performing there as he felt as if he was performing to his friends instead, making the audience feel closer to him.
Adding on that he was of a marriageable age, he also asked the Singapore fans if they were willing to return to AOMG’s concert if he was to get married. Upon seeing some fans’ apparent finger shaking (to show their unwillingness), he wittily replied that that he too would not return if they were to get married, and that everyone should stay lonely forever. He then smoothly slid in the song “Lonely Night” to end off the conversation.
The crowd roared when Jay Park took the stage, clad in sunglasses, singing “Nothing on You”, with a flawless incorporation of rap instead of the original lyrics. Removing his sunglasses, he then transitioned into one of his classics, “Joah”, with the fans enthusiastically singing along. He even motioned for the music to quieten so that the fans’ voices could be heard more clearly.

Although he had to film “Show Me The Money” and then fly to Singapore immediately afterwards, he still came as he wanted to meet the fans. However, this also resulted in him catching a cold, yet he was not deterred and gave his best when singing and rapping. If he had not mentioned it, no one would have even realised that he was sick. To prove it, he even blew his nose while holding the microphone without warning, and cheekily said “juicy”, which caused the fans to break out in “ewwww”s and he laughed at their response.
Jay Park too, provided an immense amount of fanservice, to the extent of walking right to the front of the mosh pit and even allowed fans to hug him and shake his hands. Don’t we all wish we were them. One would think that that was the end, yet he had more in store for us. He took off his suit to reveal a white sleeveless top that showed off his toned arms. To top it off, he eventually took of the white top, evoking thunderous roars as the fans saw his abs in real life.

As the members waved while saying goodnight to signal the end of the concert, the audience expectedly could not get enough of AOMG, and they shouted “encore” together until the members came back on stage. The group performed 3 more songs which had us partying like never before because there “Ain’t No Party Like An AOMG Party”. The concert then ended off on an intimate note where the members request to take a group photo with the audience as a memory which they later posted on instagram.
Not forgetting the backup dancers, who were full of energy in the performances which also enhanced the stage presence of the members. Overall, it was totally worth the experience as the atmosphere was really hyped and we are already looking forward their next concert that they may be having in Singapore!
