MXM <Match up> press conference and fan meet in singapore
Press Conference
On the evening of the 3rd of May, the charming duo of MXM from Brand New Music made a short appearance for a press conference the day before their <Match Up> Fan meeting in Singapore, to share about their plans for the future and also some interesting facts about themselves.
The two boys, Im Youngmin and Kim Donghyun, previously represented their agency on the hit television boy-group survival show ‘Produce 101 – Season 2’ which aired on Mnet. With their group name reportedly standing for both “Mix and Match” and “More x More”, the duo definitely showed us many sides of them that day.
As the fans of MXM eagerly anticipated the arrival of the duo, their energy heated up the venue as they enthusiastically cheered and sang along to MXM’s hit tracks.
Showing up with dazzling smiles, the duo greeted the fans and the press by waving in every direction, as they tried to acknowledge everyone that stood before them as if to say “thank you for coming”.

When asked what about what they have done in Singapore upon arrival the day before, they replied that they had visited the iconic Merlion and Marina Bay Sands. The duo conveyed their joy of finally being in Singapore, especially since they had been anticipating this visit for quite some time. Having lived in Singapore for 5 years previously, Youngmin expressed that he was honoured to be back, and that he was eager to showcase their talents during the fan meeting. The ever-popular dish ‘Chilli Crab’ was also mentioned by the members, as they talked about the cuisines that they were looking forward to try during their stay on our sunny island.
Moving on to the fun mini trivia on the duo, the boys revealed some unique habits they observed of each other while living together. Donghyun commented on Youngmin’s sleeping habits, saying that he “wakes up in a variety of poses daily, sometimes sitting up on the bed or at other times, with an arm under his back”. To “counter-attack” Donghyun’s secret reveal, Youngmin spilled that Donghyun “once woke up at 6am and ordered fried chicken”.

On their goals as music producers, Youngmin expressed that “it would be great if one of our self-composed songs could become the title track”. Known for composing a few of their tracks, he further conveyed his feelings and passion for music by promising to work hard and try his best so that their self-composed songs can become a title track soon. The boys also hoped to be able to work on “something hotter and sexier” in future.
Some of their must-have travelling items were also revealed:
Youngmin: “I bring my Bluetooth speaker with me at all times”
Donghyun: “Instant noodles. I always have them with me.”
When asked about their hobbies, Youngmin relayed his interest in photography and how he hopes to improve on his skills by carrying a camera around with him. Unlike him, Donghyun prefers playing video games and watching movies during his free time. He also enjoys taking walks along the Han River to relieve stress. It’s good to see that the duo has fostered their own ways of self-expression and stress relief!
Youngmin gave an interesting reply to the question on what they would be pursuing if they had not become singers. He professed that he would want to major in interior/furniture design, as he had always expressed interest in this area. Can we look forward to Youngmin’s self-designed furniture in the future? We’ll see! Sticking to his undying passion for music, Donghyun commented that he would probably be pursuing a music degree in University.

Ever wondered which singers they want to collaborate with, given the chance? The members expressed that they would love to collaborate with their seniors at Brand New Music. We look forward to any collaborations in the future, perhaps a self-composed collaboration song?
Donghyun also mentioned that he would love to dabble in acting in the future. Youngmin, on the other hand, would like to learn to host talk shows as he “appeared in a music programme in Korea previously so (he) is interested in those kinds of shows”. At the mention of acting and talk shows, fans cheered, expressing their eagerness to see the boys expand into these fields. Hit variety shows like ‘Running Man’ and ‘Three Meals a Day’ were also brought up as variety shows that they want to guest in someday. Surprisingly, the boys also mentioned that they would love to be left on a deserted island to learn survival skills. We will be anticipating your appearance in ‘Law of the Jungle’, boys!

The open press conference concluded with a short fansign for several lucky fans. Being able to meet this lively and adorable duo was really a great way to end off the night.
Their love for their fans was also evident as their eyes sparkled with joy and gratitude as they looked at every fan. The wide grins plastered on their faces also expressed their thankfulness for the fans. Their constant smiles and effort to acknowledge everyone really made the press conference a pleasant experience and the fans were also well behaved and orderly! Indeed, like idols like fans?

Fanmeet
The pre-concert energy was already high, with fans chanting and waving their beautiful lightsticks (that flashed multiple colours) to show their love for the group.
Prior to the actual performance, cute videos of the boys flashed on the screen, hyping the fans for what was to come. The videos showed the boys “roleplaying”, while reminding fans to stay safe and not block one another and to keeping their phones on silent during the show. Props to them for their creative way of portraying these reminders!
As the stage lights dimmed, the screams amplified and the boys emerged on stage looking as good as ever. Their performance of “I’m The One” left the fans mesmerised, followed by “Perfectly Perfect”, an apt title that describes the song perfectly!

The members then greeted the fans, with both of them proclaiming that Singapore is “clean and neat”, and thanked the fans for their warm welcomes. Lucky fans were then chosen to go up on stage for a game with the boys via a lucky-draw.
Before the fans went up, the boys played a telepathy game, to prove their friendship. They had to choose one of two words, and see if their choices matched each other’s. These ranged from food - “Cake or Ice Cream”, “Coffee or Tea” (where they both chose coffee) to sports - “swimming or jogging” (they both chose swimming and did a cute hi five!).
Although they had some differing answers, it did not deter them from showing off their friendship, as they did a complicated handshake together that got the fans cheering.

The next segment was where the lucky fans joined the members on the stage for a game of pictionary! Youngmin and Donghyun took a team each, with 2 fans in their team. They had to guess what the boys were drawing correctly to win the game. Both Youngmin and Donghyun continued to amaze us as they flaunted their superior drawing skills, that even left the emcees stunned.
Two winners got to choose one of the three pictures drawn by the members and returned to their seats with an autographed copy! Youngmin’s team member chose his drawing of a rose while Donghyun’s chose the diamond (she will definitely be able to relate to ‘Diamond Girl’ now!)
Following the fan segment were more performances! MXM took the stage once again with “Errday”, before serenading the fans with their sweet vocals as they sang “Gone Cold”. 6 more fans were chosen for a game of “Actionary” with the boys and the winners managed to get a polaroid of themselves with the boys!
A fan-made video played on screen thereafter, it was a surprise event prepared by Singaporean fans for the boys! As they turned away from the screen and back to the audience, a sea of raised banners greeted them. They looked visibly touched and thanked the fans for their support, and hoped that they will support them for a long time to come. A diamond shaped cake was then brought out, completing the surprise event. Kudos to the fanbases for the effort that went into planning the event!

As the boys said their farewells and went backstage, the fans started chanting for the encore and many even started rushing forward to get the best view of the boys. They returned with “Being Objective” and the long-awaited “Diamond Girl”! Their final performance of “I Just Do” wrapped up show, but that wasn’t the end.
All fans had the chance to meet them up-close and personal for a high-touch and photo opportunity. We’re sure that this fanmeet will be etched permanently in the hearts of both the boys and the fans, and can’t wait to see the boys again soon!
