Seventeen 'Diamond edge' fanmeet in singapore
After almost a year, the long awaited 13 shining princes of boyband Seventeen are finally back in Singapore - this time with a full concert: Diamond Edge. Held at Suntec City Convention Centre, fans from Singapore and even other countries gathered to catch a glimpse of their beloved K-pop idols. Judging by how much the boys have grown from a rookie to where they are now in just TWO years, it’s not hard to see why Carats (Seventeen’s fans) show such overwhelming support, love and appreciation!
While waiting for the concert to start, the entire hall of fans were singing and chanting along excitedly (and extremely in tune) to all the Seventeen songs and music videos being played - an amazing display of fandom unity even before the appearance of their idols!
Carats received a cheery greeting from their idols as they opened their concert with the hit title from their first album - ‘Pretty U’. Like the rays of light and colour that their presence brings to their fans, the boys of Seventeen donned smart suits of all colours, providing a rainbow-like visual on stage as they sang and danced on stage, with “Pretty U”, “Beautiful” and “Adore U ”. Kudos to the fashion coordinators as they managed to choose thirteen completely different shades and colours for all the members!

After performing the first few songs, the boys took a short breather by greeting their fans in Singapore once again. Every member made an effort to greet the crowd in English to the best of their abilities. This shows the love Seventeen has for the Singapore fans and as they’re always willing to put in even in simple gestures like greeting their fans in a local language, so that the experience is more personalised to each country. They then removed their coat to reveal a white top that paired well with their bright bottoms, as they took the stage with “Still Lonely”, “Aju Nice” and the Performance Unit’s very own “Swimming Fool”.
The boys returned to stage soon after, decked in school uniforms, with a classroom as the set. The cheeky boys pretended to be sleeping, dreaming and fooling around in the classroom, similar to what a day in school would be like before the teacher arrived. This time, they sang the livelier songs, “Mansae” and “Boom Boom” which got the fans screaming “EVERY DAY BOOM BOOM” together with the group. The fanchants were thunderous!
As the rest left the stage, Vernon and Mingyu reappeared, GoPro in hand, and they competed to see who could last the longest without blinking. After wiping off all the sweat from their faces, the two boys started their competition, widening their eyes to prove themselves the better. Just shy of a minute, Mingyu lost the challenge and started blinking of which, much to the fans’ amusement, Vernon failed to notice! Eventually, Mingyu admitted to blinking and carried out his punishment - doing an aegyo - much to every Carats’ delight!
In the next segment, the boys brought to us a series of performances in their sub-units. By allowing each of their members to focus on one particular area, these sub-units truly show the diverse set of skills in which the Seventeen members hold. These showcased the hip-hop unit, vocal unit, and performance unit.

By allowing each of their members to focus on one particular area, these sub-units truly show the diverse set of skills in which the Seventeen members hold. These showcased the hip-hop unit, vocal unit, and performance unit.
First up was the Vocal Unit, serenading their fans with flawless and smooth vocals as they sang “We Gonna Make It Shine”, dressed in matching black blazers and white tops. The performance then turned part creepy yet also immensely charming as the familiar tune associated to Dracula was played. With huge, fancy red cushioned chairs, loads of mist and even a candle on the table, the entire main stage was completely transformed. it was as if we were transported to Count Dracula’s home, as the vocal unit lured the fans in with “Don’t Listen Secretly”, specially remixed to suit the vampire theme. Carats’ voices could be heard, blending in harmony with the members and it was a mesmerising sight and sound to take in.
The Hip-Hop Unit then appeared in the extended stage and the fans roared as they got the chance to witness the group more close up than before. The atmosphere took a 360 turn, from swaying to the melody to jumping to the beat. Rapping suavely to “Un Haeng Il Chi” and “Check In”, as the prompted the fans to sing together with them by bending down to get closer and pointing the microphones towards them. “Check In” was a song with even more meaning, as it was written by Vernon, during their fan meetings around the world. Cities they were been to have a special feature in this the song, and Singapore is in it too! Catch the words “And I Check In, Singapore City!” in it!
Last but not least was the Performance Unit, who riled the crowd up with their fiery performance of “OMG” and “Highlight”. Right from the get-go, the fanchants were unanimous and continued to get louder and more intense throughout the performance.
The group then took the stage once again, now in matching red tops and black pants. Fans were treated to “Crazy in Love”, “My I”, “Habit” and “If I”. “My I” was one of the most memorable stages as the The8 and Jun danced effortlessly (without being tangled up!) in the ribbons. It was almost as if they were one with the ribbon, as they moved as swiftly and fluidly as the ribbon in their hands. The choreography was absolutely captivating.

Seventeen took a break to interact with their fans once again with a ment, before performing their latest title track, “Don’t Wanna Cry”. The fans cheered louder than before, perhaps in anticipation and excitement of hearing the song live for the first time in Singapore. Despite this being the first time the song was performed in our shores, the fanchants were impeccable.
This was followed by a video of the members, complete with their baby photos, as well as their video letters to Carats, which left Carats in tears. These 13 boys have come a pretty long way, and they would not have been able to do so without their hard work, and the love and support of their fans.

They returned on stage in pretty pastel shirts, in both Rose Quartz and Serenity, the official colours of Seventeen. It was a beautiful sight and the colours blended marvelously with the lightsticks that lit up the dim hall. Seventeen ended with “Shining Diamond” and “Healing”, not without cheekily spraying each other (and Carats) with water, and running around the stage like it was their playground. It was endearing to see them playing around with one another and their fans, and thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Before they left, they all said they wished to return once again and would work harder so that they would return soon. The members made the effort to walk (as a group) to the extreme ends of both the left, right and middle stages so that they could get closer to their fans and thank them for one last time before they left for real and as they all bowed in unison, it marked the end of the concert.
It was a great night spent with them and we hope to see them again soon!
